Paving, painting and uplifting the standards of the school classrooms are some of the changes that will be made at eight Ermelo schools that entered the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. At the Cashbuild Ermelo Store Opening Ceremony held on 20 March 2015 each school received a Cashbuild building materials voucher worth R15 000. Mphephethe Primary School, Alex Benjamin Combined School and New Ermelo Primary Schools are just three of the eight lucky schools that received a R15 000 voucher for building material at Cashbuild.
Alex Benjamin Combined School’s Principal Sakhile Mokoena said that they are honoured Cashbuild is assisting them as disadvantaged communities and that they will forever be grateful. New Ermelo Primary School’s Principal Vusumzi Msibi also said that they will use the voucher to improve their kitchen conditions and to expand their storeroom.
At the official Cashbuild Ermelo Store Opening Ceremony held on 20 March 2015, the learners entertained everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances while Cashbuild building material vouchers totaling R120 000 were presented to all eight schools.
The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony, and then remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years.
Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager’s Choice award was also presented to the overall winner, Hlengani Chauke from Mphephethe Primary School. This award was announced on the day and the winner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.

The Art-at-Heart competition is a southern African Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the region’s most needy schools.
